Last-minute tips: Easter holidays 2024: These are the top destinations for a holiday in the sun
Last-minute bookers can rejoice: the prices for package holidays during the Easter holidays are sometimes significantly lower than last year. We checked the price development at beach holiday destinations that can be reached by plane in less than six and a half hours from Germany.

The Easter holidays are significantly earlier this year than last year. For holidaymakers who are longing for a beach holiday, this isn’t all that good news at first. This limits the choice of destinations somewhat in terms of climate. However, there is good news on the price front. According to a current study by the travel platform HolidayCheck, travel prices for the Easter period have fallen significantly in some popular destinations – up to 22 percent. We highlight the cheapest seaside destinations for bargain hunters, last-minute shoppers, sun worshipers and adventure seekers.
Turkish Riviera: paradise for bargain hunters
Unbeatably cheap: The south coast of Turkey performs best when comparing prices from last year and this year. According to HolidayCheck, the costs for package holidays have fallen by up to 22 percent. Among the most popular destinations for Easter holidays, the 250 kilometer long coastal strip on the Mediterranean – between Kemer in the west and Alanya in the east – is the cheapest. Another advantage is that even warm showerers can swim and splash around without shivering despite sea temperatures of 17 degrees and above. Many of the large beach hotels also have indoor pool facilities. Otherwise, it is pleasantly warm outside with average daily temperatures of around 21 degrees and nine hours of sunshine. In addition, there is a landscape straight out of a picture book: sandy beaches, idyllic bays, turquoise sea and behind them the snow-covered peaks of the Taurus Mountains, up to 3000 meters high.
Cyprus: Island with sun and cheap guarantee
This is where the Greek goddess of beauty and love emerged naked from the sea, where the sun shines 340 days a year. And on the third largest island in the Mediterranean, prices have fallen by up to 20 percent compared to last year. This particularly affects the southeast coast near the port city of Larnaca, where the island’s most beautiful beaches are located. The climate in April shows its friendly side: dry and an average of 21 degrees. But the values from 2013 show that it can definitely be warmer, where 28 degrees were measured at Easter. With water temperatures of around 21 degrees, a swim in the sea is possible. And there are no partygoers celebrating on the well-known beaches near Ayia Napa – there is divine peace and quiet on the turquoise water.
Egypt: price advantage for the brave
HolidayCheck has also observed a significant price decline of eleven percent for Egypt. The flights have even become 16 percent cheaper. This probably has to do with the country’s location relative to contested areas. Firstly, Egypt borders Israel. On the other hand, Houthi rebels attacked ships in the Red Sea. From a purely weather perspective, the North African country with its desert climate has ideal beach holiday conditions. The well-known seaside resorts such as Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh, Marsa Alam, El Queseir, Makadi Bay and Lahami Bay already score points at the end of March with average daily temperatures of 25 degrees, nine hours of sunshine and water temperatures of 22 degrees. The underwater world is also a reason to celebrate. Snorkelers can observe many colorful fish on the coral reefs off the coast. Conditions are good for wind and kite surfers. This means: It often blows with up to four Beaufort.
Southern Spain: Andalusia, warmest region in the country
300 days of sunshine on mainland Spain are only available in Andalusia. The seaside resorts of Malaga and Marbella and inland the cities of Cordoba, Granada and Seville are well known. For the latter, flight prices are falling by around 22 percent this year, according to an analysis by the flight booking portal Skyscanner. With around 23 degrees on the Mediterranean coast and nine hours of sunshine, a beach holiday is already in order here at Easter. Inland it is even a little warmer, which is good for the many blooming orange trees. The parades during Easter week, Semana Santa, are also attractive. They represent an impressive mix of tradition, faith, spectacle and celebrations. In Seville, for example, there is a state of emergency during Holy Week: the celebrations with more than 100 processions are the most famous in all of Spain and an unforgettable experience. The insider tip at this time of year is the province of Almería. 217 kilometers of Mediterranean coast with volcanic cliffs, secluded bays, fishing villages and seaside resorts – from Adra in the west to Pulpí in the north-east – which have not yet been invaded by hordes of beach holidaymakers.
Oman: Underrated beach destination
Twelve percent lower cost of living than in Germany. Sandy beaches and turquoise sea. Deserts, wildly rugged mountains and green oases. Historic forts and old maritime trading towns. April temperatures of over 30 degrees during the day and 23 degrees at night. The sea is around 27 degrees. If those aren’t arguments for the perfect, exotic beach vacation! The Sultanate of Oman, located on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula between the United Arab Emirates to the north, Saudi Arabia and Yemen to the south, is one of the most underrated beach destinations. Its coastline measures 3,165 kilometers and stretches along the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. The seaside resort of Salalah is located in the south of the oriental country. It is ideal for kiting and sailing, and snorkelers and divers will find a colorful world of fish and corals in the sea. The holiday island of Masira in the southeast is also a popular beach destination.
