Last summit 2023 – Graz Stadium has been saved to death

Still no white smoke in the endless Graz stadium cause. The last summit of the year took place this evening. The main focus was on the necessary renovation work in Liebenau.

The last round of the Graz Stadium Committee this year ended today without any notable results. Of course, these were not to be expected, as the focus of the group around chairman Michael Ehmann (SPÖ) was primarily on the renovation work in the Merkur Arena. “It was primarily about the UEFA requirements that had to be met,” says Ehmann. Graz is examining properties. It’s already clear: the additional security issues in the stadium cost more than was previously estimated. There were also critical tones from the stadium administration. According to the, the arena in Liebenau has been saved to death in recent years. Regarding the location of a possible second stadium, there should be results at the next summit – the evaluation phase is still ongoing. The area in Puntigam between the train station and Ikea should continue on the Favorites list at the top. “The possible properties are currently being examined by the city of Graz,” explains Ehmann. The first stadium summit in 2024, which will take place in February, will get down to business.
