Late for a Rugby World Cup match, he gets flashed at 195km/h: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

He describes himself as THE “biggest rugby fan in the world”. Sunday October 1, 2023, a man was caught driving at 195 km/h on the highway, reports the local daily The Dispatch. The driver was joining Agen, from Marseille, on the evening of a Rugby World Cup match, which is currently being held in France. Indeed, South Africa faced Tonga that evening – a match that the fan of the oval ball sport did not want to miss under any circumstances. Late, the man aged around forty drove at full speed to arrive at his meeting place in Tarn-et-Garonne before kick-off. A launch stopped in mid-flight when it was flashed at nearly 200km/h. The events occurred on the A62 in Labastide-Saint-Pierre, in Tarn-et-Garonne. The gendarmes went after him and arrested him when they recorded its speed of 195km/h instead of the limit established at 110km/h.

The driver soon to be tried in court

The forty-year-old then cited the reason for his violation of the highway code: “I am the biggest rugby fan in the world”he explained to the soldiers, supporting his words by brandishing his t-shirt on which the same message was written. During his check, the police of Tarn-et-Garonne discovered that he was also positive for cannabis. A consumption of narcotics dating from the day before according to him, which he will justify by the suspense which surrounds the competition, declaring that “the pressure he is under from the World Cup is too great”. But his passion for rugby will not prevent the sentence from falling: the driver had his license revoked on the spot for a period of five months. Six points were withdrawn from him and he faces a fine of 1,500 euros. He will later have to explain himself to the court. To get to his destination, the man was forced to hand over the wheel of his Golf car to his partner, who made the rest of the journey.
