Bugs for all AMD APU-based machines? It seems that the problem comes from Microsoft and a Windows 11 update.

Almost a week ago, Microsoft deployed update KB5035853 for its Windows 11 system. An update that brings back bad memories of past updates that were completely missed.

Indeed, since BK5035853, many users have complained of various and varied bugs encountered on their system. A common point was found between most of them.

A “security” patch that is not very reassuring

Focused on “ resolving security issues » This update KB5035853 was deployed on March 12 by Microsoft and if for the majority of users, everything is fine, this is not the case for everyone.

Very quickly, voices spoke of nothing less than these famous “blue screens of death” upon the simple installation of the KB5035853. The error was accompanied by the message “THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER” for some cases or “MEMORY_MANAGEMENT”, or even “DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION”.

In other cases, not to mention outright crashing of the machine, there is also a question of slowdowns of the PC, a much longer time to reach the Windows desktop or restarts in a loop.

Repair AMD driver?

There are almost always some unfortunate people who encounter problems of this type, with almost every update. In this case, however, there are more users than usual and, in quite a few cases, a link with AMD APUs seems to be established.

Like the report Wccftech, several users have for example noted particularly affected performance in gaming. They have noticed that the frequency of the iGPU of their AMD chip is stuck at 800 MHz and no longer goes into boost mode. Unfortunately, at the moment there seems to be no consensus on either the cause or a possible solution.

For now, it seems wisest to block this update while waiting for better days. If it’s too late and you’re only experiencing the performance issue on an AMD APU, it might be a good idea to run “repair AMD driver package” manually from the APU options.AMD Software in Installed Windows Applications.
