Go directly to the information that matters to you in any YouTube video

As you probably know, it is sometimes very complicated to find the information contained in a video. Drowned under a ton of explanations, not necessarily related to the subject of the content, or under ads and other sponsored content, you often have to wait several minutes before finally getting what you came for.

The video player is also not the most practical, especially on smartphones, for browsing content. While YouTube introduced chapters a while ago, not all video creators bother to trim their content before posting.

Our time is precious, and the subsidiary of Google seems to have understood this well by presenting a new search option, directly in the videos.

A search field accessible from the Google app for Android initially

This new option is a pilot project that will only be available through the Google smartphone application, and only on Android initially. One can imagine that if the results are conclusive, the latter will be deployed more widely then, and why not directly in the YouTube application afterwards.

Now, when you search for information on the search engine, by selecting a video from the list of results presented, a new search box will appear just below the video player. If there is a match between your search and the audio transcript of the content being played, a link will be displayed on the screen to take you immediately to the right place.

The search is not new in itself, it was already possible to do it manually in the browser. Google is nevertheless going further today by automating the process and offering it on its mobile applications.

Another new feature announced by YouTube today: Courses will allow content creators to sell instructional video series on the platform. They will also be able to add documents, such as PDFs or presentations, offered to users once their purchase has been paid.

YouTube is finally testing the ability to add multiple audio tracks to a single video to improve accessibility.
