This Saturday, October 8, the XV of France entered the competition. But this World Cup is special for Laure Sansus and Pauline Bourdon, who are preparing for their wedding.
Laure Sansus and Pauline Bourdon flew to New Zealand. Like the other players of the XV of France, they were selected by Thomas Darracq to participate in the Rugby World Cup. But unlike their teammates, this trip has a special flavor for the two rugbywomen. Because the two women are engaged! “We leave with our girlfriends, and we both leave together”summed up Pauline Bourdon in an interview with Noon Olympic. Like number 9, the other scrum half of the XV of France is delighted to be able to count on his future wife but also on important people in their lives: “There is also our future wedding witness and the girl who will animate the wedding […] It’s a chance to live this together”.
Laure Sansus and Pauline Bourdon have been in a relationship for three years, live together in Toulouse and share more than their passion for the oval ball. Because the two share the same position in the France team, but also in their club Stade Toulouse. A result that could have happened sooner if fate had not put a stick in their wheels. The two sportswomen indeed fell in love a few hundred kilometers away, when Pauline Bourdon was still playing in Bayonne. For a while, her partner had planned to join her before their plan fell through. “We had even bought an apartment in Bayonne, added Laure Sansus in the columns of the specialized media. (…) But, in the end, it was at Stade Toulousain that we found ourselves and we are not too bad here.
Laure Sansus and Pauline Bourdon have “projects”
“If it hadn’t been for Laure in Toulouse, I might never have left Bayonne”, frankly explains number 9 to the Midi Olympique. Today, the two fiancées are teammates and sometimes competitors. “It is true that we love to play togetheradded Laure Sansus. Because we know the position of scrum half and we know each other very well. When I’m in 9 and Pauline in 10, if I want to attack an interval, she knows it before the others.” And tempers can sometimes run high. “But sometimes we take our heads in matches”, jokes his future wife. And to add: “Once it’s out on the pitch, it stays on the pitch. (…) Laure is very composed, we very rarely argue with each other in fact, I’m almost disappointed”.
Once the grounds left, the two sportswomen find a simple daily life which they appreciate. “At home, we talk very little about rugby, even if we sometimes discuss it when we come back from training.said Pauline Bourdon. When Laure holds and I replace or vice versa, we even forget to congratulate each other. It is therefore in Toulouse that the two women have settled and are now preparing their marriage. Without their love story being overhyped. “We never hid it. If people ask us, we say so.said Pauline Bourdon. (…) There we are at a stage of our life where we have projects. That everyone knows it, that the general public is aware of it, that does not bother us. We are first judged on our performance on the pitch. And that won’t change for this World Cup.”
