Tuesday January 4, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron sparked a public outcry by stating that he had very “want to piss off the unvaccinated”. All the opposition parties immediately stepped up to the plate, their representatives being outraged by what they saw as stigmatization. Beyond the speech, its form has also been singled out, with many considering that a head of state cannot be so trivial. Question of standing. However, this did not prevent his Prime Minister from putting on a diaper the next day, as well as the spokesperson Gabriel Attal. But not all the ministers seem equally at ease behind the semantic choices imposed by the boss of the Elysee, like Jean-Michel Blanquer.

The Minister of Education was the guest of Laurence Ferrari on Cnews, this Friday January 7. And without great surprise, the host quickly brought her interlocutor on this subject already discussed at length. “Do you validate the words of Emmanuel Macron who said he wanted to ‘piss off the unvaccinated’? You would have chosen that word, would you?”, she asked him. And the person concerned to try a first dodge: “No matter what word you choose, what matters is the substance of what he said”. Laurence Ferrari then replied that “the form, the language” were just as decisive. “It is true that language is at the heart of learning”, conceded Jean-Michel Blanquer. Before continuing: “This word was consecrated by Cambronne at a time in the history of France and no one found the form to be inappropriate”.

But that’s when the exchanges take a rather fun turn. Laurence Ferrari, wishing to obtain a concrete answer from his guest, provokes him: “What word ?” But the minister, embarrassed, does not want to repeat it and retorts, a smirk: “Well the radical word which is what you used”. “Don’t you want to repeat it?”, insists the host. Then Jean-Michel Blanquer to conclude: “No, I think it’s good to let the President of the Republic mark the occasion. What matters to me is the idea. And the idea is fundamental. You have to know, to moments, mark the occasion, then behind, and it is my role, with others, to help get things done. In other words, it is a call to the unvaccinated to be vaccinated in their interest and the collective interest “.
