Laurence Fishburne: That's why Morpheus doesn't return in "Matrix 4"

Laurence Fishburne will not appear in his role as Morpheus in "Matrix 4". The actor has now revealed the reason for this.

The shooting of "Matrix 4" began before the corona pandemic and therefore had to be interrupted for a while. So far it has not been clear whether in addition to Keanu Reeves (55) as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss (52) as Trinity, Laurence Fishburne (59) will return as Morpheus. But now there is certainty: Morpheus will not appear in the fourth part of the series. The reason for this, however, is not a scheduling conflict with other filming.

"I hope it's great"

"I was not asked," said actor Laurence Fishburne according to US media reports in an interview with the "New York Magazine". "Maybe that will make me want to write another piece. I wish you all the best. I hope it's great." The 59-year-old also stated that Morpheus is the role he is most associated with, "which is great". But it is not the only one of his roles that remains in the memory, "what is better".

Laurence Fishburne starred as Morpheus in "Matrix" (1999), "Matrix Reloaded" (2003) and "Matrix Revolutions" (2003). The fourth part is currently being shot in Berlin. In addition to Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith (48) and Lambert Wilson (62) slip back into their roles as Niobe and Merovingian. The newcomers include Neil Patrick Harris (47, "How I Met Your Mother"), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (38, "Quantico") and the German actor Max Riemelt (36, "Die Welle").

"Matrix 4" was announced for May 2021. Due to the global corona pandemic and the associated filming delays, the cinema release was last postponed to April 2022.
