Mourning for Cindy Williams: The actress, who became known through the series “Laverne & Shirley”, died at the age of 75.

US actress Cindy Williams (1947-2023), best known for her role as Shirley Feeney on the popular sitcom “Laverne & Shirley”, has died. This is reported by CNN, among others citing the star’s family. Williams was 75 years old.

According to the report, Williams’ children Zak and Emily Hudson said she died after a short illness. “The death of our lovely, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us an insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed,” the family said in the statement. “Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was unique, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and brilliant mind that was loved by all.”

Cindy Williams had a long career

Cindy Williams’ career spanned six decades, best remembered for her role in Happy Days spin-off Laverne & Shirley. She co-starred with Penny Marshall (1943-2018) for eight seasons from 1976 to 1983.

Cindy Williams has also appeared in several important films, including starring in George Lucas’ (78) 1973 film “American Graffiti,” which earned her a British Academy Film Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Williams also had roles in George Cukor’s (1899-1983) acclaimed 1972’s Travels With My Aunt and 1974 director Francis Ford Coppola’s (83) The Dialogue.

The stars who publicly mourn Cindy Williams include Henry Winkler (77), Michael McKean (75), Ron Howard (68) and Jamie Lee Curtis (64). The latter wrote on Instagram: “Cindy was exceptional! Such a great, natural comedian. So outspoken. Such a terrible loss.”
