Lawmen and Yellowstone: are the two western series linked?

Is the new western series “Lawmen: The Bass Reeves Story” a new prequel derived from the “Yellowstone” universe?

Before the second part of the final season of Yellowstone is broadcast at the end of 2024, the universe of the western series led by Kevin Costner continues to expand with two new projects announced. To date, two prequels have already been released: 1883 and 1923 with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

The launch on November 5 of the new western series Lawmen: The Bass Reeves Story may have suggested that this is a new production derived from the Yellowstone universe. Especially since the two series are broadcast on the same platform (Paramount+) and both produced by Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone.

But the links between the two series are limited to this single credit, since Lawmen: The Story of Bass Reeves is not yet another prequel to Yellowstone, but the first season of a historical anthology retracing the history of the most famous men of law in the American West.

This season 1 therefore decided to depict the life of Bass Reeves, known for having been the very first African-American deputy sheriff in the history of the United States. Credited with more than 3,000 arrests during his career as a lawyerthe latter also inspired the famous Lone Ranger in the western series of the same name.

Although they do not share the same universe, there is no doubt that Yellowstone and Lawmen will offer comparable pleasure to western fans, and to subscribers of Paramount+ which exclusively offers these two series!
