Le Figaro visited Amazon’s innovation center, where engineers are inventing the future of parcel delivery


REPORTAGE – In the suburbs of Boston, Amazon is designing the robots that will equip its warehouses tomorrow, and the drones that will deliver to Americans.

As in any Amazon warehouse, the parcels parade non-stop on conveyor belts. Except that here the packages are not going anywhere, the employees who handle them are engineers, and the robots are prototypes in the training phase. Welcome to BOS27, the code name given by Amazon to its brand new center dedicated to innovation, on the outskirts of Boston. It is in this warehouse of just over 100,000 m2 that the engineers of the American giant imagine how our packages will be prepared and delivered in the future. It is also there, close to the areas where the latest innovations are tested, that some 200 employees produce a large part of the robots that equip Amazon’s 400 distribution centers around the world.
