Leader wins 2-0 – Lausanne-Schreck Gnonto leads minimalist FCZ on course for victory – Sport

  • FC Zurich did not show any weaknesses in the 25th round of the Super League and also won 2-0 at Lausanne thanks to a lightning goal.
  • The leader celebrates the 12th win from the last 13 league games (1 draw), while the bottom suffers the 9th defeat in a row.
  • Because YB only scored 2-2 against Lucerne, FCZ’s lead increased to 15 points.

Shortly before the half-time whistle, there was a scene in the Stade de la Tuilière that beautifully symbolizes the current situation in Swiss football: After a mistake by FCZ goalie Yanick Brecher, whose pass landed directly in the feet of Lausanne’s Toichi Suzuki, the Japanese hammered hit the post of the orphaned goal and missed the safe equalizer to make it 1-1. Once again, it became clear to the observer that, in addition to tremendous stability, the people of Zurich can be sure of the blessings of the football gods. And that Lausanne, which only scored 2 goals in the second half of the season, is at the other end of the scale.

The will of the football gods did not change as a result. After 8 bankruptcies previously, a point in the home game was never really realistic for Lausanne. Whereby the term “home game” also refers purely to the venue: in front of a modest 2700 fans, the Zurich team were almost equal in quantity and clearly superior in terms of volume. The supporters of Lausanne-Sport once again called for the resignation of sports director Souleymane Cissé with posters.

Lausanne Fright Gnonto

Wilfried Gnonto put the guests ahead after just 136 seconds (see video at the top). The 18-year-old Italian scored his ninth goal of the season after a quick header. Of these, the noble joker scored 6 as a substitute, Gnonto scored the first two goals in the starting line-up in Lausanne, too. The 2-0 was prevented by the Vaud keeper Mory Diaw, who parried after another lightning-fast FCZ counterattack against Assan Ceesay. In addition to Suzuki’s aluminum hit, the Lausanne team only came close to a goal through a long-range shot by Zeki Amdouni (28th).

There are those goals that are good for a game. Gnonto’s hit definitely doesn’t belong in that category. The guests from Zurich tackled the further events in a rather casual manner. Lausanne fought bravely, but once again had to be shown the limits of their possibilities. So it took until the 69th minute before Adrian Guerrero, who enjoyed a lot of freedom on the edge of the penalty area, scored the 2-0 almost out of nowhere.

When is the Helvetiaplatz reserved?

Because YB had to be content with a 2-2 draw against Lucerne earlier on Saturday evening, FCZ extends the lead in the table to a whopping 15 points. After the 12th win in the last 13 league games, the championship title seems only a matter of time. It cannot be ruled out that the organizers of FC Zurich have already inquired about reserving Helvetiaplatz for the purpose of the championship celebration…

The people of Lausanne, on the other hand, will soon have to deal with a future in the Challenge League, despite the new stadium and potent donors. The gap to the barrage place is now 7, to the saving bank even 15 points.

Here’s how to proceed

FC Zurich welcomes FC St. Gallen at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Lausanne also comes to a home game. The Young Boys will be guests on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
