It’s once again Greg Street, vice-president of Riot Games, who made a point of specifying the reasons behind this announcement which undoubtedly arrived too soon. On Twitter, he declares that this strategy is intended, and if the game was announced very early, it is for two reasons.
The first is very simple: Riot Games wanted to master its communication and was afraid that the project would leak. Given that on an MMO, a very large number of people are called upon to work on the project, it is very likely that secrets will not be kept for long.
A call to artists
The second reason is also understandable, since Riot Games wanted to announce this project very early in development to make it easier to recruit.
A strategy that we now find with other big studios, such as CD Projekt Red, which did not hesitate to announce the next The Witcher in advance so that recruitment is easier, or even at Rockstar with GTA 6. Greg Street says it’s even more complicated to find MMO experts, so you shouldn’t delay.
You will have understood it, the MMO League of Legends is currently very far from being presentable. Street indicates that he does not want to reveal concrete information in order to have more freedom in the changes made during production, so that it is not dissected and perceived as worrying at the slightest modification.
