Leaving Paris – C Mauritius, carefree time

Located on the east coast of the island, the C Mauritius shakes up the codes with a concept combining conviviality, local color and offbeat experiences.

Uan old canoe hanging from the bar, a skeleton of a humpback whale eyeing breakfast, colorful oars on a wall eying a floating trampoline… The tone is set: more than a place to stay, the C Mauritius is experienced as a getaway mischievous and warm, coupled with an assumed carelessness. Opened at the dawn of the Covid pandemic in Palmar, on the east coast of Mauritius – among one of the best locations on the island – the establishment had so far remained confidential. We owe it, however, to the Mauritian group Constance Hotels – one of the pioneers of luxury hotels in the Indian Ocean with in particular the Constance Belle Mare and the Prince Maurice – which, with its opening, inaugurates a new hotel brand freeing from the classic classification (here, we would speak of a 4-star plus) to focus on its concept lifestyle and its proposed experiments. While maintaining the quality tracers of the “parent company” in each space and service.

“Many hotels today focus on two targets – travelers with high purchasing power, looking for very upscale addresses, and millennials – to the detriment of their parents, Generation X, born between 1960-1965 and 1980, follower of adventure, of novelty, but also of freedom and holidays without constraints”, notes Olivier de Guardia, general manager of C Mauritius.

It is therefore with this generation in the line of sight that this structure on a human scale – 116 comfortable rooms with terrace or balcony – has been designed around a high-end all-inclusive offer (the “no constraints” touch), both in terms of gastronomy than of activities. An offer mixing innovative vision and local heritage (nature, culture and traditions) that can be found in the interior decoration, led in duo by the Parisian studio MHNA, specialized in the design of personalized hotel projects, and Architropic, architecture agency in Mauritius and Madagascar.

Driftwood, natural ropes, branches, woven rattan, rough stones and shimmering touches make up an exotic atmosphere flanked by modernity. Four restaurants, including an Asian fusion table and the “Cpicerie”, coffee shop/delicatessen of local products all day dining, benefit from a wine cellar of a hundred references, 99% organic. Strong points of the places, the famous “Cignatures” (experiences) revolve firstly around multiple sports (and even fun) proposals: aqua volleyball, spike ball, outdoor fitness circuit, padel, beach tennis, bocce (Italian variant of boules)… and the essential kitesurfing, the winds blowing almost all year round on this eastern coast.

Other activities complete these active days: mixology lessons, canoe cruises, local aromatherapy massages at the spa, yoga, sea urchins, rum tastings, evenings with feet in the sand with a DJ… and even a sand castle competition for the nostalgic for their childhood. Obviously, there are many! And because “Mauritius is not just the ocean, it’s an island with unsuspected natural wealth. Our treks and electric mountain bike circuits have been designed to encourage our visitors to leave the hotel”, underlines Olivier de Guardia. A concept destined to be rolled out throughout the Indian Ocean and even beyond, with the C-Resorts brand already working on future openings.
