Leclerc asks TotalEnergies to lower the price of its gasoline

The media representative of the leader of mass distribution in France E.Leclerc, Michel-Edouard Leclerc, asked TotalEnergies to make more efforts on the price of its fuels and for the government to intervene, believing that the blocked prices of the oil giant were just communication.

Michel-Edouard Leclerc estimated Thursday on BFM/RMC that Total’s idea of saying: I’m blocking 1.95 euros but of margining 15 cents, that brings nothing to the country, it’s just communication (of the communication Editor’s note).

Total, as well as the other refiners, today, are not making any political or consumerist effort to prevent us from passing the symbolic two euro mark, declared Michel-Edouard Leclerc.

Two three cents off until Christmas

He proposes to the oil giant to give two or three cents off until Christmas to its wholesale customers, our purchasing centers like those of Intermarch or Systme U, to maintain the lowest possible prices – and to make an effort also in this regard. little pump attendants. Addressing Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, Michel-Edouard Leclerc asked: Receive Mr. Pouyann, the CEO of Total, and put your authority to obtain this discount of a few cents.

Under pressure from the government, supermarket brands generalized the sale of fuel at cost price at the end of September, that is to say without taking a margin, in a context of soaring inflation which is causing purchasing power to melt away. . But the gain for the consumer is minimal, of the order of two euros per tank depending on the sector, because fuel is already a loss leader, with low margins, for mass distribution.

Small gas stations worried

Small service stations, for their part, fear paying the price for supermarkets selling fuel at cost, because they often continue to sell at market prices.

The TotalEnergies oil group, present across the entire value chain, has only committed to capping the price of a liter of fuel at 1.99 euros.

At the end of September, the government indicated that the subject of an additional effort on its part had been discussed and will continue to be discussed in light of the results of a mission intended to provide transparency on the costs and margins of the entire sector. , from production to distribution through refining. A progress update is planned for December with stakeholders in the sector.
