Leclerc, Carrefour, Intermarch… The list of supermarkets where petrol is the cheapest

Large-scale distribution brands display prices at the pump that are significantly lower than those of the major oil networks. The variations can reach 29 centimes per litre. Here’s where to pay less for gas.

Where to pay less for fuel? This question, all motorists are asking themselves while the prices at the pump are close to the two euros per liter. On Wednesday, the consumer association CLCV also denounced excessive margins distributors, and demanded a reduction of 10 centimes per liter.

According to a chart made on May 9, and published this Friday by The Parisianthe gap between the different networks of distributors can reach up to 29 cents per liter. The most expensive are, unsurprisingly, the major oil distributors such as Shell, with diesel at 1.86 euros per liter in town and which even reaches 1.89 euros on the motorways at BP. For the SP95, you have to pay up to 2.05 euros per liter at Shell.

The Leclerc/Intermarch game

At the other end of the spectrum, it is the retail chains that offer the cheapest fuels. Indeed, for them, gasoline is a loss leader to then attract customers to their stores. It is Leclerc who proposes liter of diesel at the lowest price: 1.61euro in town, but 1.74euro on motorways. For its part, Intermarch sells it for 1.64 euros in town, but 1.71 euros on the motorways, 3 cents less than Leclerc.

The two brands are also the least expensive for SP 95: 1.77 euro at Leclerc in town, and even 1.75 euro at Intermarch on the motorways. Like what, contrary to popular belief, buying gas on the motorways can sometimes be cheaper! For its part, System U is positioned just behind with a liter 1.62 euro for diesel and 1.78 euro for the SP95 in town. Carrefour is more expensive by about 5 cents per litre.

Total in ambush

It should also be noted that while Total stations are on the whole more expensive than supermarkets, the prices charged in their low-cost TotalEnergies Access stations are interesting: 2 cents above Leclerc stations, notes The Parisian.

Fuels: Total will limit the price of gasoline and diesel to 1.99 euros in 2023
