Left 4 Dead: The leaked prototype on video

Many video games have emerged when they were, at first, only simple mods. DayZ, PUBG or even Killing Floor were all game mods before being autonomous, and experiencing some success. Counter-Strike, a license that was itself a mod of Half-Life, also spawned another series of video games, namely Left 4 Dead. And the prototype ended up, without any real explanation, on YouTube.

For the past few days, it has been possible to view the first version of Left 4 Dead, which had only been seen by a lucky few until now. Initially, the mod, named Terror-Strike, was developed for CS:Source, and turned anti-terrorists into bots that would run towards you, armed with a knife. The idea, attractive, was pushed by increasing the number of enemy bots to 30, for more challenge.

Once CS: Source was released, Turtle Rock, at the head of the project, experimented with new things, including putting a small group of people on one side against a horde on the other side, for dynamic confrontations. This is how, one thing led to another, we were able to discover Left 4 Dead in 2008, with of course zombies instead of anti-terrorists, some of whom have special abilities.

Moreover, know that you can download this mod, Zombie City, which makes this prototype playable on Counter-Strike: Source, by going to the GameBanana page. Seeing this work, on CS mods and the first L4D, Valve had bought the Turtle Rock studio, before regaining its independence a few years later. We then had the right to Back 4 Blood, a spiritual sequel, which unfortunately did not achieve the expected success.
