Leg pain: where do they come from?

Leg pain can have a variety of causes. You can find out what the typical reasons are and how you can get rid of the unpleasant complaints quickly here.

First it is just a slight tingling sensation, then a stinging sensation in the muscles: leg pain can not only manifest itself in very different ways, it also has many possible causes. Often the leg complaints are just a sign of short-term overload, for example if you have sore muscles after exercising. Or you have heavy legs because you walked through the city all day. As a rule, such body aches disappear on their own after a day or two. But unfortunately it is not as easy as with muscle pain in all cases.

Leg pain: cause of symptoms

If it is clear that an overload cannot be the reason for the pain in the legs, we have to search for traces. The following causes of leg pain are typical:

  • Injuries such as broken bones, knee injuries, torn ligaments or tendons
  • Weak veins or weak veins

  • Circulatory disorders
  • Thrombosis and embolism
  • Joint wear (arthrosis or rheumatism)

Do I always have to go to the doctor because of my leg pain?

Especially with acute pain, there are some signs that indicate a serious illness and should be examined by a doctor. These include:

  • Severe, long-lasting pain
  • Swollen joints that feel excessively warm
  • Pain that is difficult to estimate after an accident or injury

What helps against leg and limb pain?

Anti-inflammatory drugs, which come in both tablet and ointment forms, help against severe leg pain. Especially in the case of knee problems, it makes sense to apply an ointment and then stabilize the joint with a bandage. Otherwise, leg pain is treated based on the cause: Varicose veins and weak veins, for example due to compression stumps or surgical measures, fractures can be splinted. In addition, there are some measures that can provide relief for almost all joint and limb pain:

  • Cold or heat treatments (depending on the cause, ask your doctor)
  • physical therapy
  • Exercise (especially joint-friendly sports such as swimming and walking)
  • Water and bath therapy
