Legislative 2022 Aymeric Caron in the lead for Nupes in the 18th district of Paris

Aymeric Caron, candidate of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), came out on top in the legislative elections in the 18th district of Paris, which is largely favorable to him. He won 45.05% of the vote. The one who had supported Jean-Luc Mélenchon during the presidential campaign will face in the second round the outgoing deputy Pierre-Yves Bournazel, candidate Together! (presidential majority) which obtained 35.57% of the votes.

The former columnist of Laurent Ruquier in the program “On n’est pas couche” has been committed to the animal cause for several years. In 2018, Aymeric Caron founded Ecological Revolution for the Living – REV – an environmentalist and antispeciesist party. For the presidential election, the latter had announced his rallying to the Popular Union and had supported Jean-Luc Mélenchon in his campaign. Aymeric Caron had participated in several meetings and debates, during which he had repeatedly addressed the animal issue.

The anti-species activist, who has a good chance of returning to the National Assembly, clarified his intentions with the Parisian in the event that he is elected deputy on June 19:

I will defend the program of the New People’s Union as a whole, but the ecological component in particular, with, for example, the end of factory farms where animals are mistreated and which promote diseases transmissible to humans. Obviously, I intend to carry the fight for animal rights, where everything remains to be done. But other subjects are close to my heart: the fight for social justice, against discrimination, and against the ideas of the extreme right.

For the time being and before the second round, the 18th constituency of Paris is still held by Pierre-Yves Bournazel, a former member of the Republicans (LR) but today a member of Agir, an ally of the presidential majority in the National Assembly .
