Legislative 2022: Eric Woerth denounces “the ideological takeover of the far left”

Former member of LR now rallied to LREM, Eric Woerth sharply criticized this Thursday, May 5, the agreements made between LFI and the forces of the left in view of the legislative elections of next June.

On the table for a few days, the agreement between the leaders of the PS and those of LFI must be validated by the Socialists this Thursday evening during a national council. The Chairman of the Assembly’s Finance Committee warned the traditional left against an ideological rapprochement with the far left.

“It’s a somewhat unnatural alliance, it’s the ideological takeover of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and therefore of the far left, on the left as a whole, it’s obviously quite problematic for France” , said the deputy of Oise on France 2.

He heavily criticized the far left in France, “dangerous” according to him because carrying “another model for our country” based on the weakening of Europe and dedicated to “the pauperization of the country”.

Bernard Cazeneuve as an example

The former mayor of Chantilly (Oise) paid tribute to Bernard Cazeneuve, “one of the few” to have announced his departure from the Socialist Party after negotiations to reach an agreement between LFI and the PS on Wednesday. He judged “this political proposal totally incoherent” because of the divergence of the two groups on central issues such as Europe or pension reform.

Eric Woerth opened the door to a rallying to LREM of the socialists disappointed by this rapprochement towards the far left. He explained that the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron “blew up the dikes which were largely artificial between the Social Democrats on one side and the Gaullists, Liberals, Republicans on the other”.

Asked about a similar rapprochement on the other side of the political spectrum between the LRs and the far right, the former Minister of Labor under Nicolas Sarkozy said that “it should create the same cries of indignation”.
