Legislative 2022: Fabien Roussel judges the candidacy of Taha Bouhafs “not acceptable” and asks the left to dismiss him

Guest of the 4 truths on France 2 this Monday, May 9, Fabien Roussel returned to the candidacy of Taha Bouhafs in Vénissieux, near Lyon. “I do not understand that LFI can present someone under its colors who has been convicted at first instance for racial insult”, declared the president of the Communist Party.

“I filed a text of law asking to make ineligible those who had such convictions. He appealed, which means that he could be condemned in second instance and, if elected, to see his mandate handed over… this is not acceptable, ”he added.

In Vénissieux, the communist mayor Michèle Picard is also a candidate for the constituency.

Fabien Roussel has also asked France Insoumise to review the candidacy of Taha Bouhafs.

Sentenced for racial slur

The militant journalist was sentenced on September 28, 2021 for public insult on the grounds of origin after remarks against Linda Kebbab, a police unionist.

Indeed, in a message on the social network Twitter, Taha Bouhafs had commented on an extract from a media intervention by the police unionist, calling it “ADS: Arab Service” before deleting his comment.

“I fully assume my last tweet, I deleted it because I forgot that saying the word ar*be can be worth a ban from Twitter in the event of massive reports :)”, he wrote in another tweet.

“I could have settled my accounts by interposed media but there, it is a real drift coming from a journalist and activist with an influence on social networks. It is very hurtful and shocking,” said Linda Kebbab.

Taha Bouhafs had to pay a fine of 1,500 euros as well as 2,000 euros in damages. Nevertheless, the journalist-activist appealed.
