With the approach of the legislative elections which will take place on June 12 and 19, 2022, major maneuvers have begun, on the left, to establish a counter-power against the future President of the Republic.
In two letters made public this Friday, April 15, France Insoumise proposed to ecologists and communists to form a coalition to bring together as many deputies as possible. The socialists were not invited.
While in 2017 the Insoumis had gone it alone in the legislative elections, obtaining 11% of the vote, or 17 deputies, the Party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon this time took the initiative to launch discussions with the various left-wing forces. , with the aim of representing a larger opposition in the National Assembly, while deliberately dismissing the Socialist Party.
The Insoumis set their conditions
On the strength of the 22% of votes obtained by their candidate in the first round of the presidential election, the Insoumis nevertheless set their conditions: “a common shared program, built from the one who retained the most votes in the presidential election So “The future in common” by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, they explained in letters addressed to their competitors on the left.
Among the proposals made by the Insoumis, environmentalists and communists have been invited to join the Popular Union where they can “find their place without dissolving”, assured this Friday the deputy Alexis Corbières on LCI, as well as to start negotiations on a distribution of constituencies in proportion to the scores of the first round.
Environmentalists welcome the opening of dialogue
A proposal that did not completely satisfy EELV, whose candidate Yannick Jadot obtained 4.6% of the vote. Julien Bayou, the national secretary of the environmentalist party meanwhile pleaded in front of the press for a “proportional, weighted, smoothed” which will also take into account “intermediate polls” such as European or regional, where environmentalists have made good scores.
He also welcomed LFI’s “opening of dialogue” to get out of the “sterile repetition of 2017” and said he was open to discussions. Julien Bayou nevertheless proposed to build rather “at least a pact of non-competition” for the legislative elections, which could lead “if the discussions lend themselves to it, on a common base of a few flagship proposals”.
EELV and the PCF summoned to explain themselves
Another claim of the Insoumis: the explanation in front of the voters on the part of all those who have made “often hurtful accusations” against Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and a commitment to “stop the attacks”.
To which Julien Bayou immediately responded by explaining that there was no question of doing “penance” and that they would “not take much away from what they said” by recalling that there are “disagreements very important on subjects such as foreign policy, in particular on the relationship with Russia or authoritarian regimes”.
