In a few weeks, the French will be back in the voting booth for the legislative elections, which will be held on June 12 and 19. But to put a ballot in the ballot box without having to make long journeys, some citizens must register on the electoral lists of their municipality. This is particularly the case of people who moved after the presidential election or those who had not been able to complete the process before April 10 and 24. If you are concerned, do not panic: it is always possible to register on the electoral lists of your municipality.
Online, at the town hall or by mail
Several choices are available to you. If you want to register in lineyou have to do it until May 4 on the service-public.fr website. All you have to do is fill out a form and attach proof of address less than three months old, as well as an identity document.
If you are not very comfortable with technology, you can go to the town hall of your municipality until May 6. You will also have to provide proof of address less than three months old and an identity document. You will also need to complete a Cerfa form, which will be given to you on site. Another person can go to the town hall in your place, provided that you have given him a written and signed document attesting that you are giving him this power.
And if you prefer to do the process by mail, you can also send your proof of residence, your identity document and the Cerfa form n°12669 (downloadable here) to your town hall. The latter must receive your letter no later than May 6.
Until June 2 in some cases
Certain special cases allow you to register on the electoral lists later than May 6. For example, if you move after this date for professional reasons (excluding transfers), then you and your family can register until June 2, online on site or by mail.
Another scenario: if you are going to be 18 between May 7 and June 18 and you have not taken your census at 16. Again, the deadline for registering (in town hall or by mail only) is June 2. If you turn 18 between May 7 and June 11, 2022, you can vote in both rounds. On the other hand, if you become of age between June 12 and 18, you can only vote in the second round.
