Legislative 2022 Sandrine Rousseau in the lead in the 9th district of Paris

The finalist in the environmental primary was a candidate in the 9th district of Paris for the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) and faced outgoing deputy Buon Tan (Together!). During the first round of the legislative elections, Sandrine Rousseau received 42.90% of the votes cast. On June 19, she will face Buon Tan, candidate of the presidential majority Together!.

If Buon Tan had won in 2017 under the colors LREM, the constituency is very anchored on the left. The two previous mandates were PS (Jean-Marie Le Guen then Anne-Christine Lang). During the presidential election, voters there voted mainly for Jean-Luc Mélenchon (36.35%). Yannick Jadot, EELV candidate, obtained 5.43% of the votes.

Formerly elected opposition in the Hauts de France, Sandrine Rousseau did not only make friends by dismissing an activist to take her place. Now labeled Nupes, the ecofeminist hopes to dislodge outgoing Macronist MP Buon Tan. Little known at the national level, Buon Tan is very influential in the Chinese community, which is very established in this constituency.

In addition, the constituency has experienced unusual media coverage, because Sandrine Rousseau is running against… Sandrine Rousseau. The Mouvement de la Ruralité (LMR, formerly Hunting, fishing, nature and traditions) has decided to opt for a particular strategy: to present namesakes to the leading candidates in certain constituencies. To avoid confusion between the Rousseaus as much as possible, the acronym LMR-CNPT was indicated on the ballots of the candidate concerned. This won only 1.88% of the votes in the first round.
