A week before the legislative elections, the candidates of the presidential majority came out on top in the votes of French people living abroad, where the left-wing Nupes alliance often came second, and first in two of the eleven constituencies concerned. , according to final results released on Monday. Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) notably came out on top in the 5th constituency (Spain, Monaco, Portugal and Andorra) where Manuel Valls was eliminated in the first round. It is also in West Africa and the Maghreb, in the 9th constituency where its candidate, the diplomat Karim Ben Cheikh, arrived in front of the candidate of the macronie, the ex-minister Elisabeth Moreno.
Everywhere else, the candidates of the presidential majority came out on top, with the exception of the 8th constituency, which brings together eight countries around the Mediterranean, including Israel and Italy, and where the outgoing deputy (UDI) Habib Meyer is in head.
Low participation rate
In the 6th constituency (Switzerland), the outgoing MP breaking with the presidential party, Joachim Son-Forget, was eliminated in the first round. At the center of multiple controversies, he was largely dismissed by voters in favor of Macron’s candidate, the economist and close to President Emmanuel Macron, Marc Ferracci. Again, Nupes is in second position with Magali Mangin.
The turnout, which had reached 19.1% in the first round in 2017, remained low, ranging between 29.8% in the 7th constituency (Central and Eastern Europe) and 12.08% in the 8th.
