As election night drew to a close, the Prime Minister tweeted to refine the majority voting instructions, which have appeared quite fluctuating in recent hours.
Is this the sign of a certain feverishness in the majority? While the results of the first round of the legislative elections fell over the course of the evening, macronie figures multiplied in the media to try to clarify the positioning of the presidential coalition in the face of the duels which are looming between Nupes and RN . In a tweet published a little after midnight, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne wanted to whistle the end of recess. In response to communist leader Fabien Roussel, the head of government called on her troops to “always support candidates who uphold Republican values.” For her, the former PCF presidential candidate falls into this category.

“I hear that Elisabeth Borne would refuse to call for a Republican barrage against the far right. When I called for blocking the second round of the presidential election, I did so with clarity. It’s up to you to have the honor of doing the same.” Fabien Roussel had then arrested him, a little earlier in the evening. A Republican front asserted against the RN which differs from the line announced by the majority leader during her speech at LREM HQ, a little after 8 p.m. “Faced with the extremes, we alone carry a project of coherence, clarity and responsibility (…). In the face of extremes, we will not yield anything”, then launched the Prime Minister. Without giving any particular voting instructions in the event of a duel between the Nupes pretenders and the RN candidates, she then castigated a “unprecedented confusion between the extremes (…) as had never happened in the political history of our country.”

Generally speaking, the majority failed to take a clear position on the subject throughout the evening. If the Minister Delegate for Europe Clément Beaune first called for favoring the Nupes suitors over those of the RN – himself finding himself outdistanced by the candidate of the left Caroline Mecary in the 7th constituency of Paris -, the majority then indicated that the voting instructions will only becase by case“. And this, in ahandful of constituencies“. Way to better reassure yourself.
