Legislative: how the majority wants to relaunch a campaign marked by controversy

For several weeks, the majority has had to deal with controversy, around its ministers and the management of the Champions League final. Five days before the first round of the legislative elections, and while the polls are down, Emmanuel Macron wants to breathe new life into his party in the home stretch.

In five days, the French are again called to the polls for the legislative elections. According to a recent BVA survey, 38% of French people are interested in this campaign. A figure which raises fears of a new strong abstention, after the presidential election, which is feared within the majority. The macronie fears not obtaining an absolute majority. As proof, Emmanuel Macron himself descended into the arena last week, making two trips in quick succession, the first in a month, and giving an interview to the regional press where he urged the French to equip him of a stable and serious majority.

A campaign marked by controversy

The Head of State wants to relaunch a campaign almost anesthetized since his re-election and losing momentum for several weeks because of multiple controversies, in particular around Minister Damien Abad and recently at the Stade de France. Current government ministers are struggling to get elected in their constituencies.

Macron will occupy the media space

Facing the majority, stands a united left around Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who does not hide his ambitions. The latest polls give downward projections for the presidential party: between 275 and 310 seats, which suggests the possibility of a majority that would not be absolute for Emmanuel Macron.

He would then have to make alliances of circumstance, a hypothesis in the face of which he absolutely wants to do everything to avoid it. The tenant of the Élysée should therefore again occupy the media space this week, to highlight his action and continue to attack his two main opponents: Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc-Mélenchon.
