Legislative: La France Insoumise and Générations announce that they have reached an agreement

La France insoumise and Générations, the movement founded by Benoît Hamon and member of the Ecologist Pole, have reached an agreement for the legislative elections, they announced on Thursday, without specifying the number of constituencies granted to deputies from the ecological training. In a joint press release, the two parties indicate that they have agreed to “set up a government of unity led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon to implement our program”.

This is the first agreement with another left-wing formation that LFI has concluded for the legislative elections. The party of Jean-Luc Mélenchon has also started discussions with the PS, the PCF, EELV, and the NPA, without success for the moment.

Générations supported Jadot in the presidential election

Générations is a member of the Pôle Écologiste which supported the environmental candidate Yannick Jadot for the presidency. The small party had suspended its members who had signed a call to vote Jean-Luc Mélenchon to block Marine Le Pen. Générations had been calling for this union with LFI for several days, deeming it “necessary” since Jean-Luc Mélenchon came out on top of the left-wing forces in the presidential election, with 22% of the vote.

“We call on the other political parties to register as quickly as possible in this rally in order to be able to return immediately to the campaign”, write Benjamin Lucas, coordinator of Generations, and Manuel Bompard, the chief negotiator for La France insoumise.

“We want to build together a new stage of the People’s Union by uniting, on the basis of an ambitious program, all the forces that share it, respecting their plurality and their autonomy”, they continue, with in particular “a banner commune” and “an intergroup” in the Assembly.

The two formations say they share “common programmatic objectives”

The two parties say they share “common programmatic objectives which will form the basis of a shared government program of several hundred proposals”, such as “the increase in the minimum wage to 1,400 euros”, “the return to retirement at 60”, “the guarantee of autonomy for young people”, “the freezing of prices on basic necessities and the eradication of poverty”, but also “the establishment of genuine ecological planning” and the establishment of ‘a Sixth Republic’.

To “be able to apply our program”, “we will have (…) to be ready to disobey certain European rules”, they also agree.

Finally, “in an international context of tensions and war on the European continent”, they specify that they will continue “to work (their) convergences to find ways and means to restore peace”.
