Asked about Stanislas Guerini’s appeal to socialists “who refuse to deny their convictions”, the socialist mayor of Le Mans felt that “it’s a real democratic problem” to say: “To govern, you have to be with me, if you oppose, it means that you are radical.”
Stéphane Le Foll, the socialist mayor of Le Mans was the guest ofEurope Evening weekend. Asked about the appeal of Stanislas Guerini, of the new presidential party “Renaissance” to the socialists “who refuse to renounce their convictions”, he considered that “it is a real democratic problem” to say: “To govern, one must be with me, if you oppose, it means that you are radical.” According to him, the presidential election in April “resulted in a form of tripartism” between Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen. A form of plurality chosen by the French, which must be respected.
A “dangerous game”
The socialist believes that the re-elected president must “stop this dangerous game” because “this policy which consists in attracting with prospects all those who would like to work on the future” of France, by not agreeing with the majority decisions, is not good for democracy.
The socialist recognizes however that he has common ground with the current head of state, starting with “the big question of Europe”, but also his interventions about Ukraine. However, “on a lot of other subjects”, and in particular the battle of the legislative elections, Stéphane Le Foll assures that playing “all the time like that” with “oppositions which are sent back to radicality, it can no longer last” .
