LEGO Star Wars TEST: The Skywalker Saga, the Switch spits out its lungs

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga invades the shelves of the whole world. The owners of the Switch are not left out since the title has been ported to the beautiful console of nintendo. Of course, we have looked into this edition in order to give you our impressions. We are not going to come back to this adventure, but to dwell only on the technical part. A production that runs well on this platform?

The smallness of the screen saves this adaptation…

To start, we played it in mode TVand it must be said that the result piques the peepers a bit. Indeed, to have a frame rate almost constant (turning in the 30 fps) and in order not to delete the NPCs and other decorative elements visible in the other versions, the developers had to make some concessions. First of all, and this is the point that really jumps out at you: resolution. It’s low… too low… The rendering is blurry and gives a headache after a few minutes. In addition, the textures are (very) difficult to display, and there is clipping constantly. So certainly, it’s nice to be able to have fun with a game offering a correct fluidity, but if the graphics are hazy and the imperfections numerous, it is hard to continue your odyssey under these conditions.

So what ? Well we go into mode Portable and the smallness of the screen saves this adaptation. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a tad neater and more fun to play. Yes, pieces of environment continue to appear here and there, but the overall rendering is much more sympathetic. Either way, we had console crashes… Unable to load a level (black screen with sound), menu freezing, crash issues in-game, all of which required us to restart the Switch. The machine heats up quickly, the fans blow strongly, we feel that the beauty is doing its best to keep this production running. Other point, loading times are long and can be annoying. Regarding the voices, English is available as standard. If you want French, know that a pack is available for free on the Nintendo eShop ; you had to know…

Let’s keep it simple, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga tries to be identical to the other versions, yes, but at what cost… If you play it in mode Portable, it’s not too bad, despite visual imperfections and untimely bugs. In fashion TV, it’s a horror, we advise you to have fun on the go to avoid having the stomach upset; take care of your little eyes. For once, we’re crossing our fingers that the devs polish the title with patches correcting certain problems.
