In 2002, after 18 years of good and loyal service, Leica definitively withdrew from the market its M6, a successful rangefinder camera recognized for its durability and its shutter of rare discretion. 20 years later, the silver case is still causing a sensation on the second-hand markets, and there are many enthusiasts.

The return of a classic

This is how Leica decided to relaunch production of its legendary device. It is almost identical in all respects to its ancestor with its viewfinder and its chassis, still in die-cast aluminium. Small coquetry, the zinc cover has been exchanged for brass.

Very slightly revised

Finally, the only novelties are on the margins. The sight would be less sensitive to “stray lights”, thus facilitating rangefinder focusing. For its part, the light meter earns a red point when the exposure is well done. And the user gets an indicator on the wear of the battery. Byzantium.

At the same time, Leica is also pulling out of the attic the Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4, renamed “Classic”. Launched in 1961, it was the partner of many photoreporters. The latter does not, however, undergo any change from the original recipe.
