Lena Gercke: 4 tips for living in winter

We spend a lot of time at home in the winter and Christmas season. So that we feel really good and that the Christmas spirit arises, Lena Gercke exclusively reveals to us the tips she uses to make her home a favorite place during the opening of her LeGer Christmas Shop, which she runs together with her partners ABOUT YOU and OTTO.

The right light, coordinated decoration and Christmas feeling – we would like all of this by mid-November at the latest. But how exactly do we decorate our home for winter and Christmas, so that a contemplative mood can arise? Lena Gercke has created her own home collection "LeGer Home by Lena Gercke" together with OTTO and reveals in an interview with Brigitte.de which tips we use to prepare our home for the winter and Christmas season.

Lights, lights, lights

The lighting concept in the room is very important. For example, that you not only have light from above, but also work with indirect light – this usually results in a nice colored atmosphere and makes the room much more cozy.

We love indirect light to create a cozy atmosphere in our home. We use small lamps instead of always turning on the large ceiling light. In addition, we are of course big fans of fairy lights and scented candles in the run-up to Christmas. They are a great decorative element and only conjure up a touch of light.

Color palette

I love dark green and rust tones – the colors make the whole interplay in the room more cozy. I also always like to style natural colors and combine them with wooden elements.

Colors are of course a matter of taste and everyone can furnish their home in the tones they love. Either like Lena or with completely different color combinations. We also love the interplay of mustard yellow and petrol.

Traditions

Everyone has their very own Christmas traditions, right? And we think they're super important too. Whether it's decorating the Christmas tree, listening to Christmas music up and down or opening the Christmas bakery – we try to get ourselves in a contemplative mood at home. And that's what Lena does too:

To get in the mood, I watch 'A beautiful Christmas present'. I've probably seen the film 20 times and I really watch it every year before Christmas. It's totally funny, so be sure to check it out! In addition, nothing works in the run-up to Christmas without baking cookies. And the most important thing of course: Decorate for Christmas – otherwise there will be no Christmas spirit.

Statement parts

Scented candles, cozy accessories and great decorative elements – so we can spontaneously redesign our home again and again. However, Lena Gercke has another insider tip for us:

Accessories make the cosiness totally, but also a few statement pieces. For example, a large, comfortable couch or a really nice cozy armchair.
