Lena Meyer-Landrut reports on Instagram with an important message. The singer is stricken and wants to show exactly that. Again and again Lena draws attention to the difference between Instagram and reality.

It’s not Lena Meyer-Landrut’s best year, 30, that’s something the singer always notices. One reason for this is certainly that Lena had to cancel her entire tour for the summer due to the ongoing corona pandemic. “My feeling is: the time is not yet ripe. […] It pains me deeply to disappoint many of you and I can hardly bear to know you are sad. Believe me, it’s not easy for me,” said the 2010 ESC winner on Instagram in April. But that doesn’t seem to be the only reason why Lena is not doing so well at the moment.

Lena Meyer-Landrut reminds of normality outside of Instagram

The 30-year-old just posted a photo in which she looks tired and lacking energy. In the accompanying statement, she informed her fans: “Soooo I’ve been sick for a few days now.. [deutsch: Ich bin seit ein paar Tagen krank] I thought I’d post this. Not to get pity but to remind – everything is normal [sic].”

And suddenly, seemingly simple information that Lena is in poor health becomes an important message about normality outside of social media: “Good days, bad days and also really shitty ones, don’t let the happy faken insta world unsettle you too much. It is Everything is not always as it seems and nobody is always happy and satisfied. Expensive clothes and Instagram trips do not make you happy. Only you can create your happiness and joy inside yourself. (By the way, I sometimes have to remind myself of that) so, nice love distribute and don’t be too hard on yourself or others [sic].”

Important appeal to Lena’s followers

It’s not the first time that Lena draws attention to the difference between the Instagram world and reality. At the end of last year, the Hanoverian posted one and the same photo of herself, once with a filter, once without. In the edited image, Lena is barely recognizable with the narrower nose, fuller lips, and larger eyes. “Don’t believe the filters. And don’t start finding your filter face better than your real one,” she appealed to her followers. In the comments you can clearly see that Lena’s messages serve their purpose and reach the users. “Exactly right Lena. Thank you for saying that” and “You’re speaking to me right now, thank you” are two of the positive answers.
