Lenovo abandons its Legion gaming smartphones

The gaming smartphone segment is losing one of its own. It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Lenovo’s Legion range, on the phone side at least. According to a company spokesperson, who was contacted by Android Authoritythe division has indeed been closed.

It was certainly not the most important player on the market, but the arrival of Lenovo on the gaming smartphone market had brought a bit of freshness. Especially against well-established competitors like Black Shark, Nubia or Asus with its famous ROG Phone. Moreover, just like the Taiwanese company, Lenovo relied on its expertise in the field of PC gaming to offer a complete experience to mobile gamers.

The adventure that began in 2020 therefore ends only three years later. According to the Lenovo spokesperson, this shutdown “is part of a broader business transformation as well as a consolidation of the gaming portfolio. As a leader in gaming devices and solutions [NDLR : une allusion aux PC, bien évidemment] Lenovo is committed to the future of gaming across all formats, while being focused on what it can bring to the community.” Very wise words, which clearly close the door to a possible return of the company to this segment.

It must be said that Lenovo’s prank on the gaming smartphone market has remained largely confidential. However, the firm had played the card of singularity with its Legion Phone Duel. Two models which really highlighted mobile video games and which were designed for horizontal use, in particular with this pop-up camera placed on the edge and which allowed stream during gaming sessions. An original choice, which none of its competitors has yet attempted to reproduce. A small loss for mobile players, who can however console themselves with Asus and its ROG Phone, the seventh version of which should be announced on April 13.
