The world of portable consoles is in turmoil. While Nintendo demonstrated that a device in the form of a tablet with controllers on the sides could appeal to consumers, Steam confirmed the trend with its console capable of running PC games. This is an excellent reason for the competition to enter this niche full of good promises.
The competitors of the Steam Deck are more and more numerous. After several Chinese manufacturers, and especially ASUS with its ROG Ally, Lenovo seems to want to join the dance, and not in any way.
Two removable AND ergonomic joycons
If the first rumors around the Lenovo Legion GO appeared at the beginning of August, we still had not had images of the console. Fortunately, Windows Report published some leaks that give us a better overview of what the Chinese firm will offer. And, what we can say with certainty is that we are far from what Lenovo wanted to offer with the Legion Play.
Indeed, the future console from Lenovo could be equipped with removable controllers, like the Switch. No other big company, apart from Nintendo, has really tried it, and its new Chinese competitor seems to have thought about it well. In addition to functioning in a manner comparable to joycons, both controllers have an ergonomic shape that might appeal to gamers with large hands. In addition, in addition to a touchpad, the right controller would have a wheel on the back. To see what use Lenovo will make of it.
A device that already stands out
The fact that its controllers are detachable could indicate that the Legion Go’s screen will be touch-sensitive. Which isn’t the worst idea in the world, since Windows 11, the OS it’s supposed to run on, is easier to use with your fingers than its predecessor. In addition, it would be equipped with a retractable foot, similar to that found on the Nintendo Switch, allowing players to put the screen on a table for example. Lenovo also reportedly made its console a little thicker than other competitors, suggesting it could accommodate a larger battery than is present in the ROG Ally. Let’s also hope that it offers an efficient cooling system for its internal components.
Lenovo has not yet reacted to the leak relayed by Windows Report. In the meantime, the Legion GO, if it sees the light of day, could be an interesting alternative to the Steam Deck. Removable controllers, a powerful battery, access to the huge library of games available on Windows, an AMD Phoenix chip? The few features we have of the console do not fail to arouse curiosity. And even if there is still a lot to know about the Legion GO, we can say that it already stands out.
