After cars and two-wheelers, the automotive section of Digital is enriched with a comparison of fitted out vans. We are now testing their bedding, kitchen, interfaces and road behavior to help you make the right choice.
For more than a year, Digital publishes car tests. We have also launched a comparison of scooters and motorcycles. From now on, we will also advise you on your purchases and rentals of fitted vans. These leisure vehicles, more compact and discreet than traditional motorhomes, are more popular than ever.
To evaluate them, we make them pass the same tests as the cars. We thus measure the sound level on board the vans or the reflectance of their central screen. We record their consumption in the city, on the road and on the motorway, regardless of their type of engine.
We obviously also tackle their layout, by evaluating their beds, kitchen, outdoor blind, storage, shower, etc.
In total, our rating has more than 100 criteria and measures, structured around four sub-scores ranging from 1 to 5 stars: “Life on board”, “Infotainment and connectivity”, “Driving and performance” and “Range and recharge”. Once the coefficients have been applied, we obtain an overall score, also between 1 and 5 stars. Dynamic, it can evolve at any time according to the new references that integrate our comparison.
First three vans tested
To launch this new comparison, we chose to try the stars of the segment: the Volkswagen California, the Mercedes Marco Polo and the Ford Transit Custom Nugget. All three are sold by traditional manufacturers, but we will also tackle camper vans sold by specialists.
Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo 250d
Introductory price 79665 €
If the Volkswagen California is undoubtedly the most cult of the fitted vans on the market, the Mercedes Marco Polo is the most luxurious. As for the Ford Nugget, it is one of the rare vans to offer real toilets in its elongated Plus version, tested on Digital.
