Nintendo also suffers from the shortage of components. If sales of the Switch are less affected than those of the PS5, it would still seem that the Japanese company is planning a 10% drop in sales over the year 2022-2023.

Nintendo will cut back on its Switch sales. A few days before the presentation of the company’s quarterly results, the newspaper Nikkei Asia reveals that sales of the hybrid console should experience a drop of around 10% over the coming fiscal year (April 2022 to March 2023).
Unsurprisingly, this slight drop is mainly due to the shortage of components which continues to hit the digital industry hard. The resurgence of Covid cases in China is also causing major logistical problems, which even Apple is not immune to. According to the sources of NikkeiNintendo should sell just under 20 million consoles over the next 12 months, or 10% less compared to the fiscal year just ended.
Nintendo bets everything on its games
Beyond these supply issues, there is nothing very surprising to see a console entering its sixth year of life sell less well than in previous years. Especially since the console experienced a sales peak during the global confinements in 2020-2021. Unfortunately for Nintendo, this comes a few months after the arrival of a new edition of the Switch, the “Oled model” which wanted to breathe new life into its product family already made up of the Switch and the Switch Lite.
