These 300 guests, who for the first time set foot on the ground of the Marivent Palace, should remember it: they were among the lucky ones who were able to dinner this Thursday, August 4 with the King of Spain Felipe VI and his wife, the Queen Letizia. Even better than that: they were welcomed by the Iberian royal couple, very relaxed and at ease for this official dinner which is celebrated every year in Mallorca, where they spend their holidays.
And if the king had found his official tuxedo, Letizia, for her part, had chosen a very summery and above all local look: her long dress with slit flowers, with bare shoulders, is signed Charo Ruiz Ibiza, a designer from the Balearic Islands where they currently find. As often during the summer, the queen had chosen a pair of wedge espadrilles to complete her look as well as a low bun that let admire his particularly tanned shoulders.
Their two daughters, the infantes Leonor (16 and a half) and Sofia (15) were absent, no doubt enjoying their evening in private with their friends. But a surprise guest showed up, Queen Dowager Sofiawho greeted the guests with his son and daughter-in-law.
An institution for the whole family
Much more discreet since her husband Juan Carlos was forced to abdicate, overtaken by all the dark affairs of power, she often goes to Mallorca with them, despite the persistent rumors which testify to the fact that she gets along very well. wrong with Letizia. However this year she had not yet made an official appearance on the island.
Radiant, the two women of course showed nothing, preferring to focus on the public with whom they were very friendly. It must be said that this dinner is an institution : organized for decades, it is held in the company of the leaders of the island and the Balearic Islands but was only open to official personalities when Juan Carlos was king. He even received Prince Charles and Lady Diana or even Michelle Obama there!
Since the accession to the throne of his son, things have completely changed: if the leaders are always welcome, the whole of society on the island is represented, which allows everyone to pass through the doors of the Marivent Palace, normally closed to the public in the summer. But this year, the dinner was a bit special: for the first time, the 300 guests ate in the gardens… Covid-19 obliges!
