Let’s be zen! Five places to recharge your batteries … and meditate

MORNING LIST

Invitation to go very close, a little further or very far, Go and meditate Hugues Demeude, Manon Liduena and Marie-Emilie Michel, offers 67 destinations conducive to healing: heritage sites, spiritual buildings or simple landscapes, to withdraw from the world.

As in Tibet at La Boulaye

The “temple of a thousand Buddhas”, in Burgundy, in the village of La Boulaye, is now part of the landscape. This little piece of Tibet hidden in the French countryside is both an architectural rarity and a haven of peace in which to meditate, whether one is a Buddhist or not. The site of La Boulaye, 30 kilometers from Montceau-les-Mines, was spotted in the early 1970s by an emissary of the Dalai Lama responsible for creating temples in Europe. The Paldenshangpa center was born, and the Tibetan monastery of Samyé was chosen as a model to build a copy, as colorful as the original. Today, you can go there just one day as a simple visitor, do a two-day mediation initiation course (15 euros per day) or even a three-year retreat!

Accommodation on site from € 9 per night in a dormitory. Chalet or house from 45 € for one or two people. Paldenshangpalaboulaye.org

Summit retreat in Saint-Martin-du-Canigou

The Saint-Martin-du-Canigou abbey, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, above Prades.

In the Pyrénées-Orientales, above Prades, the Saint-Martin-du-Canigou abbey is worth first of all for the exceptional rarity of its site, at an altitude of 1,100 meters. We are in the Canigou massif, more exactly on its western foothills, above the void and above the village of Casteil. In other words, a sublime Pyrenean landscape, and a 360-degree view. The abbey church built at the beginning of the XIe century is an example of the first southern Romanesque art, a key moment in the history of Western architecture. The community of the Beatitudes (also known as the “Lion of Judah”) has occupied the premises since 1988. It welcomes “People in search of a place of spiritual renewal, of silence, of peace”, believers or not. If the spiritual journey is not guaranteed, the great breath of fresh air is totally.

Retreat from 2 to 6 nights, free participation but it is suggested to plan a minimum of 25 € to 30 € per day. Reservations by phone 04-68-05-50-03 or by e-mail: [email protected]

Divine isolation on the Ile Saint-Honorat

Lérins Abbey, on Saint-Honorat Island.

Off Cannes, the most beautiful of the Lérins Islands, Saint-Honorat, is home to a community of Cistercian monks which welcomes retreatants, believers and non-believers, all year round. Founded in Ve century, the current abbey is made up of architectural elements built from the XIe in the XIVe centuries, completed by buildings from the XIXe. The medieval cloister and its fountain are sublime. It is an understatement to say that the spirit blows in this unique place, which offers retreatants “The rest of the body, a search for God through prayer and personal reading, in an atmosphere of silence”. Because in this island planted with palm trees and vines which produce a famous wine, the exotic and nourishing nature fully participates in the peace of the mind. While attending religious services or meeting a father are optional, common meals and dishes are not.
