Let's dance: Corona precautions do not depress the mood

After a short opening dance to classics like Gloria Gaynors (70) "I will survive", celebrities, professional dancers and the jury were really excited that the new edition of "Let's Dance" was finally starting. This time, the moderators Daniel Hartwich (41) and Victoria Swarovski (26) led through a 1970s special – and there was also a little surprise.

RTL had previously announced that the studio audience would be abandoned because of the corona virus. Some would have feared that it would create a ghostly atmosphere. The few family members and friends of the celebrities and professional dancers present certainly created a mood – even if the mostly empty rows of chairs initially seemed somewhat irritating.

More strained than cool

Dutch model Loiza Lamers (25) and Andrzej Cibis (32) opened the lively dance series with a jive for "Under the moon of love" by Showaddywaddy. "Keep it up," said Jorge González, in proper 70s afro wig, but jury colleague Joachim Llambi (55) found that Lamers was "not quite as strong today" in his legs. But it was still enough for a total of 17 points.

Ulrike von der Groeben (62) and Valentin Lusin (33) secured one point more (18 points) with their tango for Vicky Leandros' "Tango D'Amour". "I didn't even notice that there was less audience here today," said the moderator. Singer Luca Hänni (25) and his dance partner Christina Luft (30) also received praise for their samba for "Stayin 'Alive" by the Bee Gees. Juror Motsi Mabuse (38) felt "a lot of energy" and Llambi explained that Hänni "showed an incredible amount of rhythm". 22 points!

Singer, musician and composer John Kelly (53) laid a hot sole for "Who'll come with me (David's Song)" by the Kelly Family with Regina Luca (31). He danced his life story in contemporary. Luca represented an angel who led him. Llambi said the idea was "a little too learned in some places". Nevertheless, it was enough for a total of 17 points. Moderator Sükrü Pehlivan (47) landed a little below with a cha-cha-cha for "Car Wash" by Rose Royce and 13 points. His dance partner Alona Uehlin (30) was also sick during the training.

Llambi swings the dance leg

TV asterisk Laura Müller (19) and Christian Polanc (41) floated for their Paso Doble to the sounds of "I love Rock 'n' Roll" by Arrows in front of a sea of pyro effects. They earned 24 points and the praise from Llambi: "Worthy, credible, a beautiful Paso Doble".

The highlight of the evening was provided by comedian Ilka Bessin (48) – but not together with Erich Klann (32) and her 15-point rumba for Chicago's "If you leave me now". After the performance, she simply brought Juror Llambi to the dance floor, where the two performed a rumba together again. For this action, the two would definitely have earned the full 30 points.

Actors Martin Klempnow (46) and Marta Arndt (30) whirled through the studio to the sounds of Foreigner's "Cold As Ice". His solo part was particularly impressive. "You fought. That's what we want to see," said Mabuse. The following couple could clearly top the 20 points of the two again. Sports climbers Moritz Hans (23) and Renata Lusin (32) showed an almost perfect Charleston for "You're the one that i want". "You were mega! (…) John Travolta is born again," enthused González. 29 counters!

The artist Lili Paul-Roncalli (21) and Massimo Sinató (39) concluded with a slowfox to "Close to you" by the Carpenters. Mabuse judged that the whole time the dance was in her head, the word "class". There were a total of 23 points, but she could "much, much, much, much more," said Llambi. They were safe with such an achievement – in contrast to Ulrike von der Groeben, Ailton, Pehlivan and Lamers, who all had to tremble. Eventually Ailton didn't get enough calls and had to pack his dance shoes. The departure was also foreseeable after the previous award of points.

"Let's Dance" is not only seen on TV, but also on TVNow
