let's save the listening number 3919

The government's desire to put the 3919 helpline in competition with one another risks damaging the quality of service, according to feminist associations and activists. They sound the alarm signal, while domestic violence explodes in times of confinement.

The number 3919, a hotline dedicated to women victims of domestic violence, is in danger, according to many feminists. Why ? The government wishes to submit the management of the 3919 to a competitive process, with the stated objective of expanding listening times and allowing it to be financed 100% by the State. But in a forum at Le Monde, a collective of personalities, including Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, Alice Zeniter, Sylvie Le Bon de Beauvoir and Caroline de Haas, warn of a major risk "to see the quality of service reduced".

In this tribune, they declare: "At the end of the Grenelle, the government responded positively to the request of the FNSF (Editor's note: National Federation of Solidarity Women) to open this service 24 hours a day. However, the terms are wrong: the government has decided to impose competition for the 3919 by a public market, a decision that could lead sooner or later to entrust the 3919 to an operator more concerned with economic profitability than with the quality of service provided to women, explains the tribune, (…) Listening is the first step in the relationship of trust between the FNSF network and every woman who has the courage to call them. Anyone who has been interested in the issue of hold will understand that it takes a long way to get out of violence and that the quality of support is therefore crucial. "

In a thread published on November 18, 2020, Caroline de Haas, involved in the #NousToutes movement, detailed her concerns.

An associative and non-governmental project

The collective recalls that the 3919 is not in the hands of the government and that it is the National Federation of Solidarity Women (FNSF) which created it thirty years ago. "It is an associative project, partly financed by private funds, carried by very committed people", state the signatories. These warn about the fact that market opening is dangerous: "Will it be entrusted to a cheap operator, with high performance, but without the slightest added value, linked to an essential commitment to women's rights?"
It is therefore necessary, according to the collective, that the French government renounce this public market project. "We ask that the FNSF receive an additional subsidy for the passage of 3919, 24 hours a day in 2021", they say in the gallery.
