What a year for Lewis Hamilton: first he became the record world champion, now he has also been knighted by the Queen.

The Formula 1 record world champion Lewis Hamilton (35) has been virtually knighted by Queen Elizabeth II (94). The Briton is on the so-called "New Years Honors" list alongside more than 1,200 other people. So he can call himself Sir from now on. In addition to him, hundreds of people were honored for their commitment during the corona pandemic.

The racing driver, who made his debut in Formula 1 in 2007, was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2008. With his 2020 world championship title, he drew level with the record world champion Michael Schumacher (51). He also holds the record for most wins, among other things.

In addition to Hamilton, other celebrities were also honored. Among other things, the actress Sheila Hancock (87) can now call herself a lady, her colleague Lesley Manville (64) becomes the "Commander of the Order of the British Empire" – as does Toby Jones (54), the voice of Dobby in the " Harry Potter "films.
