Little by little, OLED screens are imposing themselves in the landscape of gaming monitors. LG and MSI go for 240 Hz.
While televisions have been taking advantage of OLED for quite a while, manufacturers have been reluctant to switch to PC monitors. The step is however well taken and MSI is even turning to theultra wide.
45 inches and 1440p at LG
Before MSI, however, it was LG that made headlines with the announcement of its 45GR95QE-B 45″ UltraGear. As its reference indicates quite clearly, it is a 45-inch model, adopting a 800R bend radius.
LG is satisfied with an image definition of 3440 x 1440 and evokes a response time of 0.3 ms. Of course, the main attraction of this monitor lies in its refresh rate since it is a question of 240 Hz. However, you will need to have a strong graphics card to take advantage of it.
A product page is already in place at LG, which thus underlines the presence of two HDMI ports and a single DisplayPort. We note the presence of a two-port USB 3.0 hub, G-SYNC / FreeSync compatibility while the DCP-P3 color space is displayed at 98.5%.
First hinted at at IFA in Berlin, this 45GR95QE-B 45″ UltraGear monitor is slated for release on December 28. Its euro price is still a mystery, but it will be priced at $1,699.
MSI: ultra-wide 49 inches?
For its part, MSI does not intend to limit itself to 45 “and rather seems to be targeting the widest screens currently on the market. However, the manufacturer is still playing the mystery card and is content with an announcement on Twitter.
Called “Project 491C”, the teased screen will be presented in more detail during CES 2023 in Las Vegas. There is already talk of a QD-OLED panel and, therefore, a refresh rate of 240 Hz, an unprecedented value in OLED on this diagonal, if indeed it is a 49 inch.
A diagonal suggested by the code name of MSI, but the company is careful not to confirm the thing. Note that until now, all 49″ screens have adopted a 32:9 format with two image definitions: 3,840 x 1,080 and 5,120 x 1,440. Let’s hope this is the second case .
Finally, keep in mind that such a model will undoubtedly be even more expensive than the LG 45GR95QE-B 45″ UltraGear. Indeed, the two Samsung 49″ @ 240 Hz monitors in QLED and Quantum Mini LED are traded respectively 1,399 and 2,099 euros.
