LG announces the imminent renewal of its range of laptops Gram. Focused on three models of 17, 16 and 14 inches, this line designed for mobility will soon be equipped with new Intel Alder Lake chips to improve performance.
Tested by us a few months ago, the LG Gram 16 2021 suffered from relatively limited performance, despite its Intel Tiger Lake processor. This problem could however be solved in 2022 with the introduction of the new Intel Alder Lake chips to the various models of the Gram line. These will arrive in Europe during the second quarter of 2022. In other words, we should see them tumbling somewhere in May or June.
A refreshed and improved technical sheet
This year, the LG Gram 17, 16 and 14 will therefore benefit from an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor of 12and generation. For the moment, LG does not yet specify which specific references will be offered, but these processors will be coupled with a maximum of 32 GB of RAM (LPDDR5 at 5200 MHz).
Another new feature is the switch to faster NVMe Gen 4 SSDs. LG finally announces the addition of a new Full HD webcam common to the three models (instead of a 720p camera in 2021). The latter will also allow facial identification via Windows Hello. A function that we did not have on the LG Gram 2021.
But unchanged PCs
For the rest, these new LG Grams use the same connectors, the same chassis and the same batteries as their predecessors. There are therefore two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, an HDMI output, a headphone jack and a MicroSD card reader. The battery of the LG Gram 16 and 17 has a capacity of 80 Wh, against 72 Wh for the 14-inch model.
On the display side, we also remain on the same thing as last year with QHD + IPS panels for the 17 and 16 inch models, and a Full HD + IPS screen for the 14 inch model.
At this stage, LG France is not yet communicating prices for its LG Gram vintage 2022, but prices should once again stretch between 1600 and 1800 euros depending on the models and configurations chosen. A price placement that seems relatively daring to us compared to what the competition offers.
