LG UltraGear 45GR95QE: the first 45-inch 240 Hz Oled monitor will be released in December for around $1,700

The LG Ultragear 45GR95QE monitor uses a 45-inch OLED panel displaying a UWQHD definition of 3440 x 1440 pixels and supporting a refresh rate of 240 Hz. The response time is announced at 0.03 ms. In fact, it is instantaneous, which limits the blurring effect behind moving objects. LCD models simply cannot compete with Oled technology on this point.

Produced by LG Display, this Oled panel uses a four sub-pixel structure (white, red, green and blue), like Oled televisions and the 27-inch LG UltraGear 27GR95QE Oled monitor, announced last November.

The slab is very curved over a radius of only 80 cm for total immersion. This radius of curvature is in contradiction with the resolution of 83 pixels per inch, which requires that we be at least 1.2 m from the monitor to enjoy it properly. Indeed, the UWQHD definition is usually used on 34-inch monitors. On this 45-inch model, the distance between the pixels is therefore greater and the resolution (pixel density) less good.

The panel supports AdaptiveSync and FreeSync between 48 and 240 Hz, in addition to LFC (Low Frame Compensation) which doubles or even triples the number of images between 20 and 48 Hz. The viewing angles are of course 178° and the anti-reflective treatment promises to be effective. LG does not specify whether it is a matte or semi-gloss panel. Like the other LG Display panels, it covers almost the entire DCI-P3 color space (98.5%), displays infinite contrast and boasts a peak brightness close to 1000 cd / m² (this which remains to be checked).

In terms of connectivity, there are two HDMI 2.1 inputs, a DisplayPort, two USB 3.0 ports and a headphone output supporting DTS:X. The foot is adjustable in height over 11 cm, in inclination (-2°/+15°), and manages rotation over ±10°. The monitor does not have a speaker.

The LG Ultragear 45GR95QE also features Picture-In-Picture (PIP) and Picture-By-Picture (PBP) modes for displaying multiple sources on the screen simultaneously. DisplayPort 1.4 can handle a UWQHD stream at 240 Hz with DSC (Display Stream Compression).

This extra-large Oled monitor will be up for pre-order on December 12 in the US for around $1,700 (excluding tax) with delivery slated for December 28. It should therefore end up on this side of the Atlantic for a price of just under €2,000, but no marketing date has yet been announced.

The LG Ultragear 45GR95QE will therefore have a lot to do to compete with the only other Oled monitor for gamers equipped with a QD-Oled panel produced by Samsung Display, using only three sub-pixels (red, green and blue), the Alienware AW3423DW displayed at 1300 €. The Samsung 34 Odyssey G8 equipped with the same QD-Oled panel should be marketed in early 2023. Its price remains unknown.
