Lhyfe and Deutsche Bahn to develop green hydrogen trains – 06/19/2024 at 08:39

(AOF) – Lhyfe, a global pioneer in the production of green and renewable hydrogen, has built a green hydrogen production site in Tübingen which it will operate on behalf of Deutsche Bahn. Located in the innovation center of DB Energie, a subsidiary of the Deutsche Bahn group, this site has an annual production capacity of up to 30 tonnes (installed electrolysis capacity of 1 MW). The site is powered by energy from Deutsche Bahn’s green electricity portfolio.

At the Tübingen Innovation Center, DB Energie is testing new technologies for the sustainable energy supply of the rail sector, notably as part of the “H2goesRail” project.

A hydrogen train, powered by green hydrogen, will be put into service this year on a test route in Baden-Württemberg, between the cities of Tübingen, Horb and Pforzheim.

The Tübingen site is Lhyfe’s first factory in Germany. Another 10 MW site is under construction in Schwäbisch Gmünd, and will produce up to 4 tonnes of green hydrogen per day.

Lhyfe aims to become a major player in the mobility and industrial sector through the delivery of green hydrogen in containers (bulk) in France and Germany by 2025.
