LHYFE: Lhyfe and Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port collaborate to develop renewable hydrogen at sea – 2022-11-21 at 07:30

Nantes and Saint-Nazaire (France), November 21, 2022 – 7:30 a.m. CET –

Lhyfe (EURONEXT: LHYFE), one of the world pioneers in the production of green and renewable hydrogen, and Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port, the fourth largest French seaport, have entered into a partnership agreement to develop the renewable hydrogen sector at sea and thus accelerate the energy transition on the Loire estuary.

In the same way as offshore wind turbines, hydrogen, which benefits from a strong dynamic supported by the National Strategy for the Development of Decarbonized Hydrogen in France, will have to take an increasingly important place in the mix. French and European energy.

The Lhyfe company inaugurated at the end of September, in the basins of Saint-Nazaire, its Sealhyfe project, the world’s first prototype for the production of renewable hydrogen at sea, with a power of 1 MW, and which will be connected to a floating wind turbine. It already operates a site for the production of renewable hydrogen by water electrolysis and is planning similar sites on land throughout Europe.

Lhyfe plans to develop and operate platforms for the production of renewable hydrogen at sea on existing fixed structures, or on laid or floating type foundations, and is accelerating its investments in Research and Development for the development of the production of renewable hydrogen at sea, as close as possible to offshore energy sources. By 2030-2035, offshore could represent an additional installed capacity of around 3 GW for Lhyfe.

Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port is strongly committed, in many ways, to the energy transition of the Grand Ouest. The company is betting on the energies of tomorrow and is studying deployment scenarios for the hydrogen sector in its port ecosystem, with the ambition of making Nantes Saint-Nazaire the first major hydrogen port in the Atlantic.

Combine expertise

On the strength of their converging visions, Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port and Lhyfe have naturally chosen to combine their efforts and expertise to identify, understand and assess the conditions for implementing a supply chain associated with the production of offshore hydrogen.

This collaboration should make it possible to identify port spaces and equipment likely to accommodate prototypes in R&D development and to test innovative solutions. The partnership also covers the identification of industrial needs related to the construction of equipment intended for the massive production of hydrogen at sea and the port infrastructures necessary for the production, launching and integration of this future equipment. Finally, the two parties will combine their thoughts around the question of the repatriation on land of the renewable hydrogen produced massively at sea in order to define the industrial and logistical needs necessary for the reception and injection of the gas within the terrestrial network.

Matthieu Guesne,

Chairman – Managing Director & Founder of Lhyfe:

“The development of hydrogen at sea is the next big challenge ahead of us. After the integration and inauguration of our Sealhyfe platform in the port of Saint-Nazaire, we will continue our collaboration with this port, which benefits from numerous related expertise, to accelerate the development of solutions that will make it possible to decarbonize mobility and industry on a massive scale, in all regions benefiting from a coastline. »

Olivier Tretout,

Chairman of the Management Board of Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port:

“For several years, the energy transition has been a reality in the port area of Nantes Saint-Nazaire. We are facing climate and energy challenges that require us to step up our actions and quickly find new solutions. Green hydrogen is a sector of the future in which we believe, like many industrial and institutional players in the region. The port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire has many assets to be a major port for this sector. This partnership with Lhyfe is an essential first step in identifying the needs necessary for the large-scale deployment of renewable hydrogen production. »

About Lhyfe

Launched in 2017 in Nantes, Lhyfe is a producer and supplier of green and renewable hydrogen for mobility and industry. Its sites and its commercial pipeline of projects aim to provide access to green and renewable hydrogen in industrial quantities, and to enter into a virtuous energy model oriented towards environmental benefit. The company is a member of France Hydrogène and Hydrogen Europe.

Lhyfe inaugurated its first industrial site for the production of renewable green hydrogen in the second half of 2021. The company has a commercial pipeline representing a total installed production capacity of 9.8 GW by 2030 (data as of mid-September 2022). In addition, the offshore development program initiated by the company since 2019 led in September 2022 to the entry into the test phase in real conditions of the first pilot site for the production of offshore renewable hydrogen in the world.
