Liam Neeson as a comic star? He will be in the remake of a film that made us die of laughter!

Announced in 2021, the remake project of the cult comedy “Is there a cop to save the Queen?” with Liam Neeson is confirmed.

On the poster for the thriller Marlowe on February 15, Liam Neeson told Collider that the filming of the remake of the cult comedy Is there a cop to save the Queen? should start this summer.

In a recent interview with the US site, the actor said: “We are waiting for the script to be completed. Seth MacFarlane [NDLR : le producteur] and his team are working on the script. We hope that the filming will take place this year, maybe during the summer.”

The feature film will be directed by Akiva Schaffer, the director of Tic et Tac, les Rangers du risque, from a script by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.

When this project was announced in January 2021, Liam Neeson told the site Deadline : “I’ve been contacted by Seth MacFarlane and Paramount to, maybe, resurrect the “Is There A Cop?” franchise. Either such a project puts an end to my career, or it will be taken in another direction. Honestly I don’t know“.

The actor, who has been playing action films for fifteen years, will therefore take over the role played by Leslie Nielsen in the parody film by David Zucker.

Leslie Nielsen in “Is There a Cop to Save the Queen?”

Liam Neeson has previously collaborated with Seth MacFarlane on Albert in the West, Ted 2 or The Orville, showing that he can also be very convincing in a comedic role.

According to the director, the Irish actor is “hilarious when misused“. His very serious way of saying his lines makes his scenes often very funny, which was the prerogative of Leslie Nielsen.

The film franchise Is There A Cop by the trio of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker (the ZAZs) began in 1988 and was the sequel to the television series Police Squad! from 1982, in which Leslie Nielsen already played detective Frank Drebin.

The first film, now considered a comedy classic, was a critical and commercial success upon its release, giving rise to two sequels: Is There A Cop To Save The President? in 1991 and Is there a cop to save Hollywood? In 1994.
