What is the lacquer technique?

While some do not hesitate to drive with false number plates, others hide them, while the most extreme go so far as to remove them completely – which is not legal -. Another more discreet tip consists of spraying hairspray on your license plate to make it illegible to radar flashes. What about this practice? This same lacquer, which you can find in the beauty section of any supermarket, will be able to make the plate reflective. This would then prevent the radar from flashing correctly because the reflection would make the characters on the plate unreadable. Thus, the authorities would not be likely to be able to identify the motorist and sanction him.

Hairspray on the license plate: does it work?

If this tip seems revolutionary, it remains to be seen whether it really works. Well the answer is no! According to the specialized site Auto Plus, this technique would actually be a nasty rumor. The veracity of the testimonies was supported by an American program which tested and totally disapproved this practice, while proving its uselessness. If you still want to try it out to be sure, this means defying a radar and therefore risking a fine. Furthermore, it is an action strictly illegal. In addition to speeding, you run the additional risk of receiving a fine of 500 euros, if the police notice that you have tried to make your license plate illegible.
