Lidl introduces new 5D rules: Aldi, Rewe and Penny are now following suit


“We have been working intensively with our partners over the last few months to convert all parts of the supply chain for almost all fresh meat and sausage products under our own brand “Metzgerfrisch” to German origin. As a result, we are the first German retailer to offer a nationwide “5xD” offer specifically,” says Christoph Graf, Purchasing Manager at Lidl in Germany, in the press release.

Lidl also believes that the 5D regulation can also support general animal welfare and German agriculture. With foreign offers, problems can arise when it comes to understanding the husbandry conditions and processing.
